There are a ton of disciplines in ATV Racing from motocross to endurance racing. However, none transform a vehicle more than drag racing. Sure you can fun racing a stock machine or a slightly modified one but you’re going to quickly learn that in drag racing, weight is slow and a long chassis is fast. Here we are taking a look at a Yamaha built one of the great ambassadors of the sport of quad drag racing Gee Armstrong. Gee lives in the Pacific Northwest and not only helps keep the sport alive, he has helped it grow over the last couple years. If you have raced or just watched the races in Albany Oregon, you have seen Gee’s bring green and white Yamaha YFZ. For those who haven’t we have it for you right here.
This racer is a good example of “mild” progression of a stock production ATV in our sport of pro sand drag racing. It’s not designed or intended to be the fastest. It’s not a custom built from the frame up chasing huge horsepower with all expensive, custom made components. Rather it’s designed for reliability and to be a wicked contender and winner in “heads up” Pro Stock Index races (4.4 & 4.6 Class) and Pro Bracket Races to support it’s sponsor’s production models and parts for it’s sponsors. “Win on Sunday = sales on Monday”.
This Yamaha YFZ has delivered 2 Championships and 2 Second Place finishes in Championships in the Pro and Sport 2 Class in the Pacific Northwest since 2012. And has been ranked as high as 8th Fastest 4 Strokes in the Heads Up Best of the Northwest Race Series in 2016. Winning 55 podiums in Oregon, Washington and California since 2012.
