We tested Can-Am's new Apache Backcountry ATV Snow Track System on the beautiful snowmobile trails near Mammoth Lakes, California. The recently released BRP / Can-Am Apache Backcountry system combines snowmobile technology with Can-Am’s Apache 360 Track System’s trademark execution. The system features massive 13.5-inch (front) and 14-inch (rear) tracks and deep 2-inch lugs. Traction is ridiculous!
The Apache Backcountry Track System can be seen at www.canamoffroad.com and sells for $5,349.99. The system also requires the Apache 360 Backcountry Mounting Kit (sold separately for $649.99), and is for winter use only.
We installed the Apache Backcountry Snow Track System on Can-Am's 2017 Outlander 1000 MAX XTP with a 89 hp, Rotax 976 cc V-twin, liquid cooled powerplant and Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) and rode on everything from groomed trails to fresh powder! It felt like the perfect combination for the Apache Backcountry Track System.
Thanks to Can-Am's Tri-Mode Dynamic Steering we could meander in and out of the trees with only the occasional need to back up. We did get a noticeable amount of snow spray coming passed the overfenders and onto the rider, but the XTP's took most of the spray. Nothing would slow the V-Twin down and the tracks could crawl over obstacles like they were soft pillows. The foot print is so big, we could climb hills we would never dream of going up with tires. That's the beauty of any snow track system, you can ride in areas that you'd never get to in the Summer! If you are looking to ride extreme hills and deep powder this combo is what you are looking for.
Can-Am's Heated Hand Grips & Throttle Combo ($229.99), LinQ 11.5 Gallon Audio Cargo Box ($549.99) and Warn ProVantage 3000-S Winch ($579.99) are just a few of Can-Am's gigantic selection of ATV accessories.
The deepest snow we could find was well over six feet. The tracks only sunk about 4 inches and helped the machine cross over every unpacked section we took it on.
Thanks to the huge ground clearance numbers the track kit gave the Outlander, we could off-load and load with ease.
The tracks are very aggressive using snow machine track technology providing better floatation in deep powder.
Can-Am's Heated Hand Grips & Throttle Combo sells for $229.99 at the dealer.
