Always change your Polaris RZR XP 1000 oil filter whenever changing oil. If you don’t have a filter handy and the Polaris dealership is inconveniently out of town, the automotive style spin on filter can be sourced at Napa, Autozone, or other automotive parts stores.

We will show you the step by step of properly changing your Polaris RZR XP 1000’s oil and filter. This service is pretty much identical on the XP 900 with the exception of the first year (09), which is a dry sump. To change the 09 you must also drain the external oil tank and then fill oil through the tank itself.

Access the oil dipstick through the right rear wheel well. The oil cap is accessed through the removable service panel in the floor of cargo bed. The crankcase drain plug is on the bottom of crankcase and accessed through the skid plate access hole.

Polaris RZR XP 1000 Oil Change Step-By-Step Directions:
1. Start with a clean machine, transmission in Park, and on level ground. Clean area around the drain plug.
2. Place a drain pan under the engine crankcase and remove the drain plug. Allow oil to drain completely.
3. Use the Polaris supplied oil filter-drain catch tray to avoid a mess and unscrew (counter-clock-wise) the oil filter.
4. Clean oil filter sealing surface with clean rag, lubricate o-ring on new filter with fresh oil and install new filter.
5. Install new filter until o-ring (gasket) contacts sealing surface and then turn an additional ½ turn.
6. Reinstall the crankcase drain plug. Torque to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm)
7. Remove oil fill cap and add 2.5 quarts (2.4 l) of recommended oil, then reinstall the fill cap.
8. Remove the dipstick, wipe it dry with clean cloth and reinstall the dipstick completely. Remove dipstick and check the oil level.
9. Remove the oil fill cap to add recommended oil as needed, Maintain the oil level between min. and max. marks on dipstick, but do not overfill.
10. Reinstall the fill cap, the dipstick, and properly dispose of used oil and filter.
