Off-Roading...Cheaper than Therapy

The real reason we ride?

It seems like my "to-do" list on any given day gets longer and longer, while the twenty-four hours I'm stuck existing in each day never seems long enough. The hustle and bustle, the monotony of mundane tasks, the phone calls, relentless emails, annoying questions, and the constant struggle to try and convince myself and others around me that I'm not ready to blow a gasket seems almost impossible at times. They say misery loves company, so I'm not ashamed to say I take solace in the fact that I'm in good company, with many of our loyal readers living this exact scenario. For some people, paying someone to sit on a couch and talk about how they feel might be the answer. For me, that has never been a consideration. I discovered early in my career that when the stress of daily life seems too much to handle, hopping in my SxS, on my quad, or throwing a leg over my dirt bike resets my brain and reminds me that "this too shall pass".

Off-roading to me is more than an activity, more than a hobby, and more than a way to find an escape from the day to day drudgery. For me, off-roading is a lifestyle. It was important to me for my kids to grow up in an off-road friendly environment where they too can find peace and harmony. So, for us, if the weather is nice on a Sunday afternoon, our ritual has evolved into spending at least a few hours breathing the fresh air, taking in the sites, frolicking in the woods, and just exploring anything we come across. If I give my kids the choice of off-roading vs. nearly any other activity, they choose to go ride. I think it's because we don't just ride, we make it an adventure and in some innate, primordial sense of reality, this makes the chemicals in all of our little pea brains so very happy.

There's no question that off-roading is cheaper than therapy. It's also a hell of alot more fun as well. As an added bonus, the "prescription" for your problems might just be a damn good excuse to pull the trigger on brand spankin' new machine because...hey, it's certainly cheaper than therapy!
