A closer look at Ford’s first EV truck.

For better or worse, Ford’s all-electric F-150 Lightning is the talk of the town. And now we know, at least in the confines of our limited testing, if the truck that promises the realization of our electric future is worth the wait and money. Let’s dive in and take a closer look at some of the finer details of the first fully electrified Ford pickup and the first EV truck we’ve tested here at ATV Rider: the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning.

Unlike most truck names that are simply stickers slapped on the side of the bed, the Lightning gets actual raised emblems.Ross Ballot
It looks unquestionably like an F-150 and simultaneously unlike any F-150 before it.Ross Ballot
The Lightning couldn’t have cared less that we loaded it with nearly a half-ton’s worth of 2022 Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 Ride Command.Ross Ballot
The Lightning’s tailgate features a pull-out step and handle to help you get into the bed.Ross Ballot
The tailgate will even help you measure, should that be what you’re using the truck for.Ross Ballot
Standard truck bed fare as far as size and access are concerned.Ross Ballot
The bed features one of three Pro Power onboard points, with multiple outlets for convenient usage of the truck’s electric power.Ross Ballot
Hooking up a trailer is relatively easy thanks to an exposed hitch and wiring hookup points.Ross Ballot
The steering wheel is a normal F-150 unit. We wish it was a little smaller.Ross Ballot
Smart Hitch will help you get your Lightning hooked up to a trailer, and Pro Trailer (the knob to the left of the screen) is for helping maneuver it when reversing.Ross Ballot
The onboard scale helps you understand how much weight you’ve loaded into the truck. We couldn’t get it to work, but that might have been due to operator error in failing to get acclimated to the system.Ross Ballot
Definitely an EV.Ross Ballot
You can even play games on the center screen, if that’s your kind of thing.Ross Ballot
Get frunky (front trunk).Ross Ballot
More outlets can be found inside the frunk. The truck will tell you if you forget to close the cover.Ross Ballot
