West Virginia’s magnificent Hatfield-McCoy Trails saw a record number of visitors last year, and at the same time set a record for year-over-year growth. In a story in the Charleston, West Virginia Gazette-Mail, organizers said the pandemic and word-of-mouth advertising likely drove the expansion.

Added to that, powersports saw a boom over the last 18 months, as people itching to get outside pursued any avenue they could to enjoy the outdoors. For our money, there are few better places for East Coast ATV riders to head. The trails span some 1,000 miles across nine counties in southern West Virginia.

The routes range from technical extremity to fast, flowing double-track, and the trails are surrounded by awesome accommodations and dining options. Generally, the terrain covered by these trails had some connection to coal or natural gas extraction, industries which have long since left the area. Now, the riders using them are giving the strained local economy a new chance.

We expect the numbers will stay strong next year, and are planning another outing of our own along with the UTV Driver crew. Stay tuned, and start planning your own trip.
