Top 2017 Model Year Base Model ATV's

New Year Bargains

About eight years ago, one of my closest friends bought a brand new base-model Hyundai Accent he dubbed "The Champ". The Champ came from the factory with no radio, no air conditioning, no power anything, a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty, and the dealer threw in a free set of four tires for when it came time to replace the originals. To date, The Champ has given him well over 100,000 miles of trouble-free service for his out-the-door price of $9,000. WHAT A BARGAIN!

If we'd take a poll, I'd bet my lunch money that many people might define the term "bargain" a bit differently when it comes to their own purchases. For some, that bargain might be the cheapest, low-frills machine you can find, just like The Champ. For others, they might considered their purchase a bargain when a feature laden model with all sorts of great options also comes at a great price. We took a look at all of the manufacturers base models (not to be confused with entry-level models) and picked ten units to help those on the hunt for a new machine!

Yamaha YFZ450R: $8999

Yamaha YFZ450R: $8999 - As the only 450 sport quad left in production, this alone should qualify the YFZ for our list. The fact that Yamaha's base model YXZ450R is also chock full of great features like a fire-breathing four-stroke engine with killer suspension make it a great performance quad, even in base model form.ATV Rider

Can Am Outlander 450: $5999

Can Am Outlander 450: $5999 - One of the most interesting machines on the market is the Outlander 450. For less than $6k, you'll be able to snag yourself a single cylinder Rotax powered four stroke with some of the same features as the more expensive Can Am models. A double A-arm front suspension, rear Torsional Trailing-arm Independent (TTI) suspension, and a Visco-Lok auto locking front differential help make this a great, inexpensive option.ATV Rider

CFMoto CForce 500S EPS: $5199

CFMoto CForce 500S EPS: $5199 - How does electric power steering, a factory winch, and a 500cc Bosch fuel-injected four stroke engine for just over $5k sound? Add to it the protection of a one year warranty and a growing dealer network, and the CForce 500S EPS looks even more enticing. CFMoto has made some great strides in recent years, and the new CForce 500S EPS should help them to garner more positive attention.ATV Rider

Honda Fourtrax Rancher: $5299

Honda Fourtrax Rancher: $5299 - Honda's two-wheel drive 420cc Rancher is one the most reliable machines on the market. The manual transmission and solid rear axle with swingarm rear suspension are low-tech, but highly durable. It's small size and bargain price make it a fantastically fun machine to ride as well.ATV Rider

Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4x4i: $8999

Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4x4i: $8999 - If you're a Team Green fanatic, Kawasaki's Brute Force 750 is an excellent option. The rumbling V-twin is intoxicating to ride and has an amazing reputation for durability. It will cost you more cash to jump to a model with EPS. But if that doesn't matter, you'll be hard-pressed to find another four-wheel drive ATV that's more fun to ride!ATV Rider

Polaris Scrambler 850 : $8799

Polaris Scrambler 850 : $8799 - How does a 78HP twin cylinder ProStar power plant sound for a base model. Although the base Scrambler doesn't come with Polaris' excellent EPS, it does have excellent power, sharp handling, and is super fun to ride!ATV Rider

Polaris Sportsman 570 : $6699

Polaris Sportsman 570 : $6699 - The Sportsman 570 combines a bit of old and new technology to help keep the price down. The chassis uses a dated (but effective) front strut suspension and old-school Sportsman chassis mated to a modern day 570cc ProStar engine. The powerful fuel-injected single cylinder produces 44HP and makes the Sportsman a really capable ride at a base model price.ATV Rider

Yamaha Grizzly 700 EPS: $9699

Yamaha Grizzly 700 EPS: $9699 - One of the few base models to come standard with Electric Power Steering (EPS), its also one of the most reliable machines money can buy. At just under $9700, you can have this base model Grizzly in any color you want, as long as that color is green. An extra $200 buys you the choice of blue or white and Yamaha throws in cast aluminum wheels.ATV Rider

Yamaha Kodiak 700: $6999

Yamaha Kodiak 700: $6999 - A more bargain priced Yamaha, it shares a great deal in common with the more expensive Grizzly, including the the engine/transmission combination. The Yamaha Kodiak is a fantastic machine, especially for the price. If you can't deal with no power steering, there is a Kodiak EPS version available for additional cash.ATV Rider

Yamaha Raptor 700: $7899

Yamaha Raptor 700: $7899 - The only remaining manual transmission, open-class sport quad on market comes in several models, including the least expensive base model that made our list. Long travel suspension, a bomb-proof manual transmission, and some killer street (and desert) cred to boot.ATV Rider
